Episode #20 was another challenge episode entitled Liquid Thanksgiving. What I had initially thought of as moderately difficult turned out to be a real tough one. The challenge was to emulate the main dishes of Thanksgiving in a series of cocktails: Roasted Turkey, Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, Stuffing, Cranberry Sauce, and Sweet Potatoes. I figured since Bobby had the full array of ingredients at his disposal, with no limitations or requirements, he would easily be able to whip them up easily. As it turns out, savory drinks are not simple.
Lisa, Bobby and I spent the show discussing Thanksgiving experiences and swapping stories, while Bobby noodled out how to put the cocktails together. I won’t go into the details, no real history to speak of as the monsters Bobby was creating were never before seen. Listen to the show to learn a little more about your hosts and feel free to comment about your Thanksgiving experiences.
The quick run down on the challenge was this: Lisa and I both raved about Bobby’s Sweet Potato, by far the best he produced (and it figured since it has a sweet profile). Next both of us agreed that second place was the Roast Turkey, a savory drink that really called up meaty flavors and totally nailed the challenge. The Mashed Potatoes and Gravy and Cranberry Sauce both held nebulous placement in the rankings Lisa and I thinking that they were good and achieved the goal of the challenge, but weren’t as good as the previous two. The Stuffing we will never speak of again. Listen to our reactions as we tried each one.
Despite the difficulty, this challenge was a ton of fun letting Bobby demonstrate his creative prowess and giving us the opportunity to try some never before sampled cocktails.
